You might want to open the package ahead of time, and take a look at the written directions. We will be meeting at our regular times in the morning, and at 1:20ish in the afternoon. We will also meet together Friday morning for a special activity, and to open your surprise box!

4th AND 5th GRADES:

READING: “United States”. Yesterday, we discussed your annotations and answered a few comprehension questions about the passage, stressing the use of part of the question to answer the question, as well as citing text evidence. Today, I need you to reread the passage. Answer the 3 questions I emailed to you about text features.

READWORKS: You have questions due today! Read the text one more time, and be sure to cite text evidence when asked to do so.

MATH: We will take a look at yesterday’s worksheet (“What’s It Worth?”). Today, work on the 2 “Picture Puzzles”. Remember, these are logic puzzles, meant to be a challenge. Don’t give up!

MYSTERY SCIENCE: We will discuss yesterday’s video, “Why do penguins have wings if they can’t fly?” Also, watch “Why does it get cold in winter?” https://mysteryscience.com/mini-lessons/winter-cold?code=d509cab8039b03da5de83d63e597f959 BEFORE our morning meeting so we can discuss that, too. After you watch the video, answer these questions on a sheet of paper:

1. Why does it get cold in winter?

2. What did this lesson make you curious about? What other questions do you have about the winter?

Bonus Activity: It’s supposed to be SUNNY today! You can safely study how the Sun moves by watching shadows. Find an object in your home (or outside) that is in full sunlight. Look to see if it’s making a shadow. Then, use two stickers to mark the edges of the shadow. Wait an hour. Look again. Where is the shadow now? Where are the stickers? If you have time, check the shadow every hour to see what happens!

Draw or list inventions you know of that help us travel in air, water, or space. Then be an inventor. Invent a new way people can travel.
