4th Grade:

Daily Language Review (DLR): Week 8, Thursday

Handwriting: Lesson 9, Day 4

ELA (Journeys): Log in to your ThinkCentral page  https://www-k6.thinkcentral.com/ePC/logout.do. Read “How Do They Do That?”. Answer the following questions: 1. Name some examples of special effects used in movies. 2. Why do you think it took the makers of Jurassic Park three years to develop special effects? 3. Reread the second paragraph on page 220. What is the process for motion capture? 4. Reread the caption on page 220. How does it help you to understand the text? Also, complete Reader’s Notebook pages 75, 78, and 82. 

Math: Minute 37. Use place-value models. Workbook pages 51-52. Use your virtual base ten blocks to help you multiply. https://apps.mathlearningcenter.org/number-pieces/

Science: Chapter 5 - Read and complete the activities on pages 140 and 141. (How does shape affect bone strength?) and (Draw Conclusions).

Halloween FUN! - Complete the #HalloweenSelfie pages (design the cover of your phone - you can use the patterns for the background, but you may choose to decorate with a favorite character, animal, book, etc.). Write a paragraph about what you are going to be for Halloween and what you were for Halloween last year. 

History of Halloween: Annotate the close read and answer the comprehension questions.

IXL Skills for the week: ELA U.1, OO.3, OO.5, OO.11, and V.2. Math D.24, D.12, and D.22. Social Studies B.1 and B.2.

Readworks: “History of Halloween”, due Friday. “What is a Galaxy?”, due November 4th. “The Changing Night Sky”, due November 9th.

This is the last week to earn RQ points for October.

**You can wear your Halloween costume to “class” on Friday afternoon. Remember, your costume is a secret. 


5th Grade:

Math: Multiply multi-digit numbers by 1-digit factors. Workbook pages 37-38.

Science: Understand how body systems work together and interact. Pages 46-49. Take notes in your Science Journal.

Religion: Discover objects and garments used at mass. Find images online and create a Keynote presentation. Include the significance of the object/garment, and its role in the mass. Due end-of-day Friday.

Vocabulary: Use the unit words in sentences, due Friday.

Reading: “Vote for Me” - You can read/listen online at ThinkCentral, or you can read it in your textbook, pages 102-104. Compare Texts: ThinkCentral assignment, or textbook page 105.

English: Review Compound Sentences, Reader’s Notebook pages 27, 30, and 34.

Halloween Fun: Read and annotate “The Scariest Front Yard in Town”. Answer the comprehension questions that follow.
